Finalists in 2020 Family Owned Business Of The Year.
We are delighted to be Finalists for the Growing Business Awards as ‘Family Owned Business Of The Year 2020’
In 2006 we set-up The Phat Pasty Company in 2006 as a husband and wife team. We delivered pasties, sandwiches and soup to local businesses in our VW-inspired Phat vans. Initially the products were made in our kitchen at home and pasties delivered from the bakery in Cornwall. 15 years later and we are now providing our Cornish pasties and pies to food-service operators across the UK (we have outgrown the home kitchen I might add!)
A Hands-on Family Business
2020 was a difficult year for many small family owned businesses. In March the Covid crisis stopped all pubs, restaurants, cafes and food service operators from buying Cornish pasties and Premium Pies. With the help of the family we were able to pull together to ensure we were able to offer customers what they needed during these times. We received many messages asking where customers could buy our pasties and pies at home. In response, we launched ‘Phat@Home’. This is very much a family operated arm to our usual food-service offering. From our children helping with marketing and social media, to us all working around-the clock to manage a whole new offering.
The Finalists
Congratulations to all the Finalists of this year’s Growing Business Awards, Family Business of the year including Waterman’s, Crep Protect, Mash Direct, Company Shop Group. 10 Years ago we were were nominated as a Start-up for ‘New Business Of The Year’. In this year the Trunkies guys were triumphant, with Phat as a runner up.
To just be nominated is fantastic and to make the finals once again is amazing for the Phat business.
We are to still be family run, using British ingredients and maintaining the traditions of a true artisan British institution – The Cornish Pasty’.
It has been quite the year, winning the 2020 World Cornish Pasty Champions and 7 Awards at the 2020 British Pie Awards!
The family business is still 100% owned and operated daily by the Phat Controllers – Paul & Laura Clark. We met at Catering College in the 80’s and worked in large multinational and International catering businesses. Phat was a way to escape the corporate world and work for ourselves in a business that we love!
